Last week I spent more than $500 to purchase four prescription drugs to maintain my health. I pay this amount every month. I pay $75 every two months to consult a psychiatrist. Without the financial support of my mother my symptoms of chronic depression would plummet and my health would be in grave danger.
I am like approximately 46 million other American citizens that do not have health insurance.
A couple of days ago while I got my nails done I couldn’t help but overhear the conversation of a woman loudly talking to her nail technician about the health care debate in Congress. She described that the effect a full coverage health plan for citizens that chose to opt into the program would have horrendous and potentially catastrophic damage to doctors should the legislation pass. She described to the woman that if her brother wanted to be a practioner, he should lock in a job quickly because if the health care reforms passed, doctors would only be able to earn up to a certain amount of income.
To the best of my understanding, she argued that the socialist foundation of the health care reform would impede the potential financial earnings which are a critical foundation of American capitalism.
I shared my thoughts on health care in a prior post which you can read here.
I would love to learn your thoughts on this impactful debate about health care reform.
